Welcome to Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday. Snippets of ten sentences or less are yours for the reading!
Today’s snippet comes from Book Two of The Black Wing Chronicles ~ HERO’S END.
Last week, the Five-Point game with Bo and “Rex” started heating up with an all or nothing bet with Bo’s father’s stasis pod on the line.
***
A wheezing sound that passed for laughter hissed partly from Rex and partly from the mechanics in his motorized chair. The effect was unsettling.
“Very simple, Barron,” he said. “To see my cards, you must place a Capre X2S Mergent Arms blaster on the table.”
Bo’s hand dipped to the handle of the weapon sitting snugly on her hip in its custom quick-draw rig. “You know that’s not the only weapon I’m carrying, right?”
“I would be disappointed in you if it were,” he said. “But the Capre is the only one I’m interested in. That weapon has been passed down from Barron to Barron for centuries.”

That’s the snippet for the week. Thank you for stopping by. Please take the time to visit the other wonderful authors taking part in Science Fiction/Fantasy Saturday!
All I know is, Bo fired first!
I also keep wondering when Josie Bettancourt is going to show up. “Stasis Pod? That’s not a stasis pod. THIS…is a stasis pod!”
Love the line, “A wheezing sound that passed for laughter hissed partly from Rex and partly from the mechanics in his motorized chair.” Unsettling indeed.
Haha! I see a collaboration effort…hint-hint! 😉
You know, I’m okay with that! Let’s collaborate already!
We really do need to get all of your SFF Saturday regulars together for a spaceport card game.
I like it!
Thanks. I really love Rex. He completely came out of nowhere and surprised me.
Definitely unsettling…and hope Bo knows what she’s doing (of course she does!), betting a family heirloom like that.
I blame Blade. She never was much of a gambler. This is all HIS influence.
The “man” do know his firearms. Gotta love that.
He likes collecting symbols of power and badges of office. The Barron’s weapon is as good as a signet ring for that.
Oh, no he didn’t! Why is she carrying the Capre on her person anyway? I guess I have to read the book to find out. Right?
Errr…okay, yeah! Let’s go with that!
Let’s hope his hand isn’t loaded. Yeah, I went there. Great scene. I’ve been enjoying this for the last few weeks. Can’t wait to see how it all “plays” out. I think I better stop here.
LOL! Well, next week I hope to put everyone out of their misery with the final installment. 😉
Very nice!
Thank you, and thanks for stopping by!
Sounds like the ante just got upped. btw Jarn’s in his usual place at jarnianconfederation.wordpress.com; I just forgot to sign him up.
Thanks! I stopped by to see what Jarn was up to this week!
Come on Bo, just shoot the guy, take the stasis pod and be done with it.
That’s what she’d prefer to do, but this guy’s home is a cliff top fortress and while she has obtained some information about the layout, she isn’t sure *where* inside the compound it is.
Fantastic tension! Just shot the guy.
I mean shoot. Shot would involve tequila and that’s an entirely different situation
Ah, but that would still be fun!
