Saturday Snippet: Hero’s End – The Beginning

Welcome to Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday. Snippets of ten sentences or less are yours for the reading!

Just because…here are the opening lines of HERO’S END.

***

Larianne Varo strode briskly down the wide promenade on the spacer’s level. Ignoring the admiring looks and lewd propositions thrown her way, she slipped through the crowd, careful not to touch anyone as she passed. Taller than most females, her height gave her an advantage in a crowd. A quick head turn and her chin-length black hair brushed her jaw. Still no sign of anyone following her. Her pace slowed as the battered flashing sign advertising Scarlett’s Pleasure Suites came into view just over the heads of the crowd. She glanced down at the chrono on her wrist.

Early is on time. On time is late. She was very late.

That’s the snippet for the week. Thank you for stopping by. Please take the time to visit the other wonderful authors taking part in Science Fiction/Fantasy Saturday!

  1. Count me in on the folks who waiting eagerly for this one. In fact, I finished the last item still left to read on my Nook, and haven’t bought anything else, so that I can start into this one immediately. 🙂

And I smiled with the last line. That “early is on time…” comment is one I use all the time, and was taught to me back in high school during my time in the marching band. How fun.

    1. “Early is on time” is my husband’s mantra. It’s his military background.
We’re working furiously on getting it out ASAP. I think you’ll agree it was worth the wait. There are a lot of series arc threads that had to be woven into this one.

    1. September for certain. Laurel says she’ll be finished with the edits by next week and that just leaves assembly and proofreading. As soon as my proofreader gives the all-clear, it’s going live. HERO’S END is twice as long as SOVRAN’S PAWN so I’m not certain how long it will take Jess to finish the proof.

  2. Cool stuff!! Looking forward to the read. I liked the “on time” and “early” comments too, those kinds of details really help define a character. Great opening set up.
