Welcome to Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday. Snippets of ten to fifteen sentences or less are yours for the reading!
Yes, this is still from BARRON’S LAST STAND. The setting is the engine room of Bo’s ship Sundance. Following a prison break which Bo orchestrated, Blade stowed away aboard her ship (unbeknownst to her until after the ship had entered hyperspace.) They haven’t seen one another in five years due to a messy breakup in which Bo threatened to shoot him next time their paths crossed. Of course, Blade is on his knees and she has her blaster leveled on him…and they’re bickering.

“It just rankles that you can’t deliver the Black Wing to Marin, doesn’t it? You’re still an Inner Circle Agent, Blade Devon. You always will be. You’re deluding yourself if you think otherwise.”
He shrugged. “I can always count on the IC to eventually show up and bail me out when I end up someplace like Akita.”
Bo’s lips quirked. “And I’m sure they’re always more than happy to take you to Trisdos for a face to face with the old man.”
“I’m very good at getting away from security details, you know that.” He smiled. “That was an impressive operation you orchestrated. I wouldn’t have tried to single hand a break like that. I’d have brought in a team.”
Bo’s lips quirked. “You have problems with authority, I don’t play well with others.”

Methinks she’s still more attracted to him than she wants to admit.
You are absolutely right. She does truly love him. That’s why she is so angry with him.
He’s doing his best to flatter Bo – and she’s actually not averse to being flattered by him.
Well, he is kind of hot and he knows just the kind of flattery that will mean something to her.
I’m left wondering what he’s going to say to finally crack her armor of anger. BTW, I’ve finished Hero’s End. Great stuff!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
When a man is as talented a liar as Blade, it won’t be words that crack her armor. It will be deeds.
